Baton
Batton, Batune, Battoon
1. A diminutive of the bend. It is one-fourth the width but does not reach the extremities of the shield in the form of a cotise couped. The baston is regarded as synonymous with the baton by some authors, whilst others consider it a riband.

2. The baton is sometimes used other than bendwise, e.g. a cross of four batons fretted; sometimes blazoned four batons in cross fretted; and also a cross double parted and fretted.
