Buckle, Arming or Armour Buckle

(Fr. Fermail, Pl. Fermaux)

Buckles are borne of various shapes, as oval, round, lozengy, and masculy, but the form should be particularly expressed in the blazon. The position of the tongue, whether fesswise with point in dexter or sinister, or point in chief,  should be stated and, when borne pendent, should also be expressly noticed.

When ornamented, buckles are termed garnished and studded, or buttoned (Fr. boutonné)
