Cabinet des Armes
(Fr.)
Latin. Armarium honoris. A form of hatchment used in some European countries consisting of a square table or cabinet enclosed within a frame. Upon the conclusion of the funeral of any armigerous person, it is usually fixed against a wall within the church in which the defunct is buried. In the centre of this cabinet is placed the tabard, helm and crest with, on one side the sword and on the other the gauntlets; at the bottom the spurs and in the four angles the paternal and maternal shields of arms of the deceased.
