two lions counter-passant
1. Used as a prefix before the word describing the position of two beasts to indicate that they are placed in opposite directions, e.g. counter-passant, counter-rampant .
2. The word so formed may also used to denote a beast facing sinister rather than the normal dexter position. Contourné may also be used to describe this position.

3. A term indicating that a charge or partition line is adorned with trefoils, fleur-de-lys, etc. on both edges or opposite each other. See Counter-posed.
