Maltese Cross

Gu a Maltese cross arg

The emblem of the Order of St John, the Maltese Cross consists of eight points and is made from four straight-lined arrowheads, meeting at their points, with the ends of the arms consisting of the indented letter V. In its earlier forms before the Order’s period in Malta, the symbol of the Order was represented by various forms of the Cross Paté concaved. It assumed its present form probably in the middle of the sixteenth century and is now quite distinct from the Cross Paté.
