Said of the moon when in her decrement or decours, ie, when the crescent is borne with its points toward the sinister side of the shield. See Moon.

A decrescent was  formerly painted with a profile face within the horns.  However, neither the crescent, increscent nor decrescent, should have a face within the horns or illumination around it, unless particularly expressed in the blazon.
