Globe, Sphere

Globes, celestial or terrestial, are to be found in heraldry, as follow:

Terrestial Globe or Sphere

A globe blazoned with the lines of latitude and longitude showing the continents and, at times, mounted on a stand or in a frame.

A terrestrial globe, environed with a meridian.

A terrestrial globe, in a frame, environed with a meridian.

Demi Globe or the Northern Hemisphere thereon an eagle rising [Paulk].

Celestial Globe or Sphere

Less common is the Celestial Globe, borne sometimes without its meridian or foot, at others the celestial circles with the signs of the zodiac.

The Celestial Sphere environing the terrestrial globe, sometimes called only a sphere, comprehending both the celestial and terrestrial globe is a bearing which also occurs in heraldry. By some it is termed a sphere beautified (or adorned and replenished) with a variety of celestial bodies, etc. and was the crest of Bull, clockmaker to Queen Elizabeth I.
