Millrind, Millrine, Millrynd, Fer-de-Moline, Fer-de-Mouline, Ink-moline

Fer-de-mouline is the original name for the iron which is set in the centre of a millstone to hold it in place. It is now commonly called a millrine or millrind and was drawn in various shapes, the most common being the 1st and 2nd illustrated above. When with a square or quadrangular centre it is sometimes found blazoned quadrant millrind. An early blazon describes it as two crescents addorsed and coupled by two plates.
