Purpure

Abbreviated purp

The heraldic term for this  colour  purple. When engraved it is represented in heraldry by diagonal lines drawn from the sinister chief point to the dexter base point of the shield.  In ancient heraldry, this colour on a nobleman's coat was called by the precious stone Amethyst, and  by the planet Mercury when on the coat of a sovereign prince.
