Quarter

Escartel

1. A division of a shield when it is quartered or divided into four  or more sections to enable the marshalling of two or more coats of arms. When one or more of the quarters is sub-quartered, the four primary quarters are termed Grand Quarters. Pecys is an old English term for quarters.

4. Quarter per saltire, Quarter-pointed:  An early term signifying a quarter of a saltire, now better known as per chevron with its various forms, i.e. reversed or issuant from sinister or dexter as the case may be.
