Quarterly Quartered

A quarterly shield having one or more of its quarters quartered.

The terms counter ecartelé, counter escartelé  or counter cartelé, and even counter-potent quartered have also sometimes been used in this context.

Quarterly quartered is sometimes encountered in early works to mean quartered, e.g. a cross quarterly quartered, better blazoned a cross quartered.
