Slavonic Cross

Mostly used by the Russian Orthodox Church, this is the Byzantine Cross but with the lower cross-bar slanted diagonally dexter to sinister. The symbolism is similar to the Byzantine Cross but the slanted lower cross-bar is a more graphic description of the footrest wrenched loose by Christ's writhing in intense physical suffering.
Another interpretation is that the lower end of the cross-bar being down represents the fate of sinners, while the elevated end represents Heaven. A further interpretation describes the lower side as the bad thief while the elevated side represents the thief who would be with Him in Paradise.
