Scarpe

Escarpe, Scarf

A diminutive of the bend sinister being one-half its width. It is derived from the French word escarpe, a scarf, an ornament used by commanders and field officers, worn over the left shoulder, athwart the body and under the right arm. The term scarpe is sufficient in blazon without mentioning sinister, which is implied.
