Tyger and mirror:
A term describing a heraldic device once found (1725) in the glass window of the
chancel of the church of Thame in Oxfordshire and impaled with the coat of arms
pertaining to the family of De Bardis. It was inspired by the fable that those
who rob the tygress of her young, lay pieces of looking-glass on the way which
cause her to stop upon seeing herself in glass, thus giving them time to escape.
