A division of the shield whereby the four angles are couped by diagonal lines so as to form a large lozenge on the field extending to the four sides of the shield.

Some English authors sometimes apply the term to ordinaries. When centred, it is merely called vestu without any addition; but, if the diagonal lines are applied only to one side or another, then vestu a dextre or vestu a senestre are used, as it may happen to be.
